“This grant will go far in helping Cradling New Life achieve its goals of increasing assistance…and the number of families we are able to help.”
-Cradling New Life President Mindy Nelson
The MDRT Foundation has awarded a USD $5,000 grant to Cradling New Life, a Des Moines-based charity that provides assistance to families with babies in Iowa hospitals’ Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). “This grant will go far in helping Cradling New Life achieve its goals of increasing the amount of assistance we are able to provide to each family as well as doubling the number of families we are able to help at Mercy One in Des Moines, Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, and Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City,” said Cradling New Life’s President, Mindy Nelson.
Through its global grants programs, the MDRT Foundation is committed to building stronger families and communities around the globe. This year, the MDRT Foundation will award over $1.6 million in MDRT member-endorsed grants to over 300 charitable organizations worldwide. Layne Brown of Pleasant Hill’s Copper Creek Financial Group has been an active member of MDRT since 2006 and nominated the Des Moines-based charity for a 2022 grant. “The MDRT Foundation is a great resource that supports its members in giving back to our local communities and those in need all around the world,” he said.

About Cradling New Life:
When babies are born prematurely or with health issues, families are unexpectedly thrown into difficult situations—emotionally and financially. Cradling New Life is privileged to help the families who have little ones in an Iowa hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) when it feels like their worlds are crumbling. Typically, parents take time off of work to be with their baby in the hospital. In doing so, their incomes come to a halt, but their bills do not. And it’s nearly impossible to focus on bills when a newborn child is faced with such uncertainty and unimaginable obstacles. Cradling New Life seeks to support families in their time of great need by providing monetary assistance with mortgages and rent, utilities, insurance premiums, car payments, grocery bills, and gasoline expenses.
